Sermorelin Therapy

With age inevitably comes a dramatic decrease in vitality along with sinking growth hormone levels. Luckily, we now have the ability to safely and naturally increase these levels with sermorelin treatment – bringing back vitality along with a host of other physiological and psychological benefits. Peptides like sermorelin truly are the future of personalized medicine and now they are more accessible than ever.

HOW SERMORELIN BENEFITS YOU

As we get older, we all experience a steep decline in growth hormone levels. After the age of 30, growth hormone levels drop by 15% on average for every decade of life. Remember the seemingly endless energy you had as a teenager? Well, this youthful vitality is due in part to abundant growth hormone production and release by your pituitary gland. During puberty, males release an average of 150 nanograms of growth hormone daily for every kilogram of bodyweight. This amount settles to about 25 nanograms per kilogram a day at the age of 55 – an 83% reduction in daily growth hormone levels. What this means is an increased body mass index due to higher body fat ratios, reduced muscle mass and strength, decreased bone density, and poorer lipoprotein (cholesterol) profiles among other things.

Like many aspects of the aging process, decreased growth hormone production is usually asymptomatic at first with its ill effects not becoming apparent for some time. Up until recently, the only option to replace growth hormone came in the form of exogenous (from outside the body) human growth hormone (HGH). For now, Sermorelin stimulates the production and release of your own growth hormone.

HOW DOES SERMORELIN WORK?

If you know anything about hormones then you likely know that they are quite easy to throw out of balance. That is why sermorelin, and other growth hormone-releasing hormones (GHRHs), are so safe and effective. Sermorelin stimulates the production and release of your own growth hormone, in a way that complements your natural biological rhythms. Usually, growth hormone is released in pulses throughout the day, with the biggest pulse coming just before you usually go to bed. Sermorelin stimulates the production of growth hormone in your pituitary gland, allowing for your deeply embedded feedback loops to facilitate or stop production as necessary.

BACKED BY RESEARCH

In multiple studies, sermorelin has been shown to acutely increase growth hormone levels, resulting in a myriad of health benefits for the subjects. Men and women in a six-month study experienced lean body mass increases and an average 5-8% reduction in body fat levels, particularly in the abdominal region. Impressively, another study showed an increase in levels of IGF1 by 30% in men and 23% in women (IGF1 is essentially a hormone derived from a growth hormone that is responsible for muscle growth in adults – more growth hormone equals more IGF1). Other studies have indicated increases in cognitive function, bone mineral density, and general subjective improvements in wellbeing and quality of life. Long-term usage studies are still being conducted but the consensus is that sermorelin is especially well tolerated and is an effective option for the purpose of anti-aging.

HOW TO USE SERMORELIN

    • TYPICAL USAGE

Sermorelin is commonly taken by subcutaneous injection, which is an injection under the skin but not in the muscle. The best time to take the injection is in the evening since that correlates better with the natural secretion of growth hormone.

    • SERMORELIN DOSAGE

The commonly recommended dosage of Sermorelin for anti-aging is one 300 mcg injection per day.

PRECAUTIONS & SIDE EFFECTS

Arguably the most interesting aspect of sermorelin treatment is its relative lack of side effects. Because sermorelin works with your own body’s natural systems to release growth hormone, the natural feedback mechanisms which govern your hormones are unaffected. This enables you to avoid many of the potential side effects of traditional hormone-replacement therapy. That being said, there are some mild side effects that have been reported which include injection site pain, swelling, or redness, as well as flushing of the face, headache, dizziness, hyperactivity, and more. Speaking with a physician will help you decide if the possible side effects are worth the improvements in quality of life that can result from sermorelin treatment.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • WHY IS THIS MEDICATION PRESCRIBED?

Sermorelin is a synthetic version of a naturally occurring substance called a growth hormone secretagogue. A growth hormone secretagogue stimulates the release of growth hormone from the pituitary gland. Growth hormone levels naturally decline with age. Sermorelin is used off-label or outside of FDA approved clinical use to stimulate the release of growth hormone in adults and, subsequently, the level of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). IGF-1 regulates the level of growth hormone and its effects on tissue and bone growth.
By stimulating the production of growth hormone-releasing hormone, sermorelin also affects sleep patterns by increasing the amount of slow-wave sleep, increasing the nighttime pulses of growth hormone release, and reducing the release of the stress hormone, cortisol.

  • WHAT IS THE SUCCESS RATE FOR THIS MEDICATION?

Controlled, double-blind studies comparing the use of sermorelin with placebo showed a 9% increase in lean body mass, a 14% decrease in fat, a 7% increase in skin thickness, and a 1.6% increase in vertebral bone mineral density.

  • ARE THERE ANY SECONDARY USES FOR THIS MEDICATION?

Sermorelin is used to treat wasting in acquired immune deficiency disease (AIDS)

  • HOW SHOULD THIS MEDICATION BE USED?

Sermorelin is injected subcutaneously or under the skin. The injection is taken at night to mimic the natural release cycle of growth hormone.

  • WHAT IS THE TYPICAL DOSAGE RANGE FOR THIS MEDICATION?

The typical recommended dose for sermorelin to treat adult-onset decreased growth hormone release is 100 to 300 mcg injection per day.

  • HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR THIS MEDICATION TO START WORKING?

It can take up to three to six months to get the full benefits from sermorelin. The peak level of sermorelin in the blood is reached within 5 to 20 minutes.

  • ARE THERE ANY SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS FOR USING THIS MEDICATION

Sermorelin is best taken at least 30 minutes before or after food consumption. It is better to take sermorelin at least two hours after eating dinner, so food does not interfere with the release of growth hormone and IGF-1. Staying well-hydrated is also recommended. Foods with a high glycemic index cause spikes in insulin which can reduce HGH production. Reducing your intake of foods with a high glycemic index can not only help you optimize your growth hormone levels but also help you lose weight and decrease your risk for diabetes, heart disease, and some cancers.

  • WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I FORGET A DOSE?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you notice. If it is near the time for the next dose, skip the dose and resume the normal dosing schedule. Do not double up the dose to catch up.

  • HOW SHOULD THIS MEDICATION BE STORED?

It is recommended to reconstitute (adding water) the Sermorelin powder in sterile water, which can then be further diluted in other aqueous solutions. Sermorelin powder, although stable at room temperature for 3-4 weeks, should be stored below -18°C. Upon reconstitution, Sermorelin should be stored at 4°C out of direct light for between 10-14 days and for future use below -18°C. Prevent repeated freeze-thaw cycles.

  • HOW SHOULD THIS MEDICATION OR SYRINGES BE DISPOSED OF?

Ask your health care provider or pharmacist how this medication should be disposed of appropriately.
